Privacy

This English version is provided for convenience. The French version is the only one with legal force.

The short version: no account, no tracker, no telemetry. The little data that passes through is used to run the site, the updates and the reports, nothing else.

On this site

No cookie is set and no audience measurement tool is used. Only the accent you choose at the bottom of the page is kept in your browser’s local storage, at your request: it is never transmitted. The site’s language is read from its address (/fr or /en); without it, it is inferred from the language preferences your browser sends, without storing anything.

Like any web server, the site’s server keeps technical connection logs: IP address, date, requested page, user agent. They are used only for the security and proper operation of the site (legitimate interest), are deleted automatically after 14 days, are not used for commercial purposes, not cross-referenced with other data and not shared with third parties. This server is hosted by Hostman.

In the application

Charon works without an account. The application sends no usage data, no statistics and no identifier.

On its own, it only opens network connections in two cases:

  • to your own servers, to do its job;
  • to the update server, to check whether a newer version exists. This is simply reading a public file: as with any web request, your IP address and user agent end up in the server logs, kept 14 days like the site’s.

Two actions also go out, but only when you take them: “Report a problem” opens a GitHub page in your browser, and the contact address in the settings opens your mail client.

Connection profiles (host, user, port, favorite folders) are stored locally, on your machine. Passwords and passphrases are stored in the operating system keychain: no internal command sends them back to the interface, and the configuration export contains none of them.

Reports

If you report a problem or suggest an idea, what you enter (description, steps, version, system, language, and a contact address if you leave one) is used only to handle that report. You choose to send it: the legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

  • the report becomes an issue in a private repository on GitHub;
  • a notification containing only its title and link is sent to Discord;
  • your IP address is kept 10 minutes in memory to limit abuse, then forgotten: it is never stored.

GitHub and Discord are American services: this information may therefore be transferred outside the European Union. A report is kept as long as needed to resolve it, and deleted on request.

Under Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and the French Data Protection Act, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object to and port the data concerning you. Exercise them at lucas.raffalli17@gmail.com.
